Introduction: interpretation of social responsibility of businessmen is associated with the concept of entrepreneurship. Contemporary empirical study of corporate social respon-sibility shows that the difficulty lies in the entrepreneurs’ interpretation of social responsibility.
Materials and Methods: the empirical basis for writing this article were the data of the author’s research of social responsibility of entrepreneurs of the Chuvash Republic through the method of content analysis of the materials of the informational portal of the city of Cheboksary (http://cheb.ru), of the official websites of enterprises of the Republic (Chuvashcreditprombank, AKKOND, Cheboksary electric apparatus plant, Cheboksary power system works, Cheboksary aggregate plant, Chapaev Cheboksary production association), as well as the secondary analysis of the all-Russian research centers (ZIRCON, Centre of wealth management and philanthropy Skolkovo, the Russian aid fund of Rusfond and Grayling) as well as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Chuvash Republic. The following general scientific methods of analysis were used: the historical, comparative, systemic and functional ones.
Results: the analysis of social activity of enterprises in the Chuvash Republic made it possible to clarify their regional features, the nature and content of social responsibility of large enterprises in the region. The ways of development and improvement of corporate social responsibility of enterprises in the Republic were identified.
Discussion and Conclusions: the results of the study of social responsibility of business in the regional society provide an opportunity to see the current behaviors of large and medium business entities in the Chuvash Republic, the variety of interpretations of the concept and content of corporate social responsibility, the need for further increase in the number of socially responsible entrepreneurs, including through the activities carried out by the authorities at the Federal and regional levels.
