Introduction: domestic statistics of migration of population is the most dynamic field of Statistics as a science and a socio-economic practice. Territorial bodies of the Federal Service of State Statistics, particularly in the Republic of Mordovia, provide a high level of analytical work in this area. However, there are still difficulties when accounting the movement of people in the official registration system. Migrants are registered not at the time of moving but at the time of arrival for permanent residence.

Materials and Methods: the materials for the study included the data of demographic records of migrants in the Republic of Mordovia for various years, 2002 and 2010 censuses as well as the departmental migration statistics data. The basic research method is the method of statistical data analysis combined with the calculations made by the author.

Results: the dynamics of the size and migration of the population in the Republic of Mordovia according to various demographic accounting data was analyzed as well as the demographic discrepancies in the demographic accounting of migrants and the 2002 and 2010 censuses data.

Discussion and Conclusions: the main way to overcome the paradox of migration through enhancing the types of accounting of official statistics was devised. The directions of improvement migration of the population accounting and the forecast balance of labor resources were proposed.
